Because a lot of times adults make decisions and plan things out for us without really consulting us even if it heavily affects our lives. Chase Ingraham

Serves on: Environmental Quality Commission

Why are you excited about serving on this Board or Commission?

I have always been super engaged and interested in environmental action, environmental change, and environmental justice. Being able to be on a commission that is dedicated towards environmental change in my own community is naturally something that really exictes me. I’m really looking forward to being a part of the change to renewable energy for Northfield, and being able to work with and converse with youth on the matter.

Why do you think it is important for young people to be involved in community decision-making?

Youth are the future! With no youth there is no reason for change. That stands especially true in the environment. The environment that adults create, whether they realise it or not, they are creating for their children and their children’s children. Having youth involved (in any board or commission really) creates an ideal community. To give youth the opportunity to be involved socially, environmentally, fiscally, etc. I saw the Dalai Lama speak in Minneapolis and he said “Happy person, happy family, happy community, happy earth.” The happiness of the community, made and ensured by the youth of that community, will genuinely have larger, real-world impacts on many places outside of your community.

What is the best part about growing up in Northfield?

Keeping programs like this going, making sure youth have a spot for decisions and leadership in their community. It’s super essential and a really truly remarkable part of our community.
