Mayor’s Youth Council Meeting

Members Present: Rey Andrade, Sid Beaumaster, Katie Bull, Marie Colangelo, Peter Duba, Theo Hofrenning, Ivy Johnson, Brandon Miller, Ingrid Pfefferle, and Sofie Scheuerman
Members Not Present: Nathan Dahlen, Chelsea Moses, Cyrette Saunier, Rachel Stark, George Zuccolotto
Others Present: Soraya Dangor, Anna Fure-Slocum, Zach Pruitt, Kris Vohs, and Nick Welna
I. 100 Best Communities for Youth party: 11 am in Stevens’ room
II. Soraya announced the times of Boards and Commissions meetings that are on Thursday, October 13, 2011
III. Clothing Drive: Brandon, Marie, and Cyrette sent in our HCI grant on Monday, October 10, and we should get an answer sometime this month. We decided the money would be used as prizes for a raffle that would serve as an incentive to donate- winners of the raffle would receive a $25 Target gift card and would get $25 to donate to a CAC charity of their choice (Brandon will create a list of these charities)
IV. Website: Katie will begin adding minutes to the website
V. Project Accelerate: at this time we have an overflow of volunteers- a program section will be opening at the middle school
VI. Family Service Night: we’ll be updated later (not until January)
VII. Will/Anna: grant to focus more on active student voices in schools’ opening/closing, curriculum, teacher evaluation, etc. We’d like to use this grant to inform students about the upcoming levy being voted upon. To do this, we will first meet with the superintendent on Wednesday, October 19 to educate ourselves on the subject, then create posters and have a table at lunch with facts about the levy (while remaining neutral in opinion). Then we will hold a Kids Vote at the high school regarding the levy, and present our results to the town. Anna can be reached at furesloa@carleton.edu and Nick can be reached at welnan@carleton.edu.
