City of Northfield Boards and Commissions

Arts & Culture Commission advises the Northfield City Council about the development of arts and cultural activities, organizations, and facilities in Northfield.

Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Steering Committee unites the Northfield community to support and build awareness for service members and their families.

Community Education Advisory Board advises Community Education staff in programming, budgeting, and departmental development.

Economic Development Authority seeks to improve the economic condition of Northfield; establish a higher tax base and additional job opportunities for the citizens of Northfield; and provide resources and tools (ex. loans and grants) to support this kind of development.

Environmental Quality Commission advises the Northfield City Council on matters concerning environmental quality and natural resources.

Heritage Preservation Commission seeks to safeguard the heritage of Northfield through preservation of sites and structure that reflect the city’s cultural, social, economic, political, visual, or architectural history. The commission promotes preservation and continued use of historic sites and structures for education.

Housing & Redevelopment Authority is a partner in providing a sufficient supply of affordable, adequate, safe, and sanitary dwellings in Northfield.

Human Rights Commission works with the Northfield City Council and the Minnesota Department of Human Rights in implementing the state’s Human Rights Act to secure equal opportunities for all residents.

Library Board helps make recommendations about the Northfield Public Library’s functions and facilities.

Northfield Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention helps raise awareness about local youth substance use and makes recommendations for actions to decrease youth use.

Park & Recreation Advisory Board directly advises city staff and elected officials regarding the public parks system and all public recreational facilities in the City of Northfield.

Planning Commission prepares and maintains the city’s Comprehensive Plan and advises the City Council on matters regarding implementation of the plan. The commission also conducts public hearings and makes recommendations to the City Council on proposed changes affecting zoning and land use.

Statewide Health Improvement Plan (SHIP)- Community Leadership Team establishes and grows community support for policy, systems and environmental change work aimed at making the healthy choice the easy choice.
